The October Affair - Inanam version '80

Many ASSes from class of ’73 graduated that year. Some had already decided to build their future abroad. But uncannily they returned at around the same time between August and October 1980. So by word of mouth, news about the party at my Inanam home spread like wildfire. Not only the ASSes came but my other ex-England group of friends dropped by as well – KK boys from La Salle and KK High School - banded like brothers working the fruit farms, the factories, the bakeries, turkey packing plants, existing in tent-sites in Kings Lyn, Montrose, Goldhanger, thru every Summer. At September’s end, each returning to campus in Leeds, Manchester, Loughborough, Salford, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Brighton, Huddersfield, and elsewhere. I can’t recall which LIVE band was brought in but the booze kept flowing till the wee hours and the laughter still keeps ringing in my ears.

It was the beginning of a new phase of life for everyone, a feeling of optimism about our destiny. And not knowing when we would meet again gave one and all a genuine feeling of goodwill and happiness to sit down and chat a while, to get pissed, and to wish each other well for the future. As the next sunrise banishes that moment to memory lane, we all realized there would never be another night like this in our lifetime. (Written in memory of classmate Yong Chen Hin, may his soul rest in peace.)
